Mr. Maleno brought all fifth grade students to Lincoln Center for a special jazz concert. During the performance the students experienced the sound of a variety of instruments and singers. The students thoroughly enjoyed the performance as well as visiting Lincoln Center!

Mr. Maleno brought all third grade students to participate in a special recorder program at Carnegie Hall, "The Orchestra Swings". During the school year students prepared for the visit by listening to "swing" music and practicing songs on their recorders. Their visit was an interactive performance where the third graders played their recorders along with an orchestra and jazz ensemble. Students can now say they played at Carnegie Hall!!

Recently, Mrs. Freschi's class was visited by Dumont resident Liam McCormack. This amazing young man was diagnosed with Autism back in 2009. He enthusiastically shared with students the unique experiences and challenges he faced growing up. His important message to students was " Just because you learn differently, does NOT mean you are less capable than anyone else!" Liam is also an accomplished artist and has his own hand drawn sticker company, "The Sticker Spectrum." Each student received a packet of some of his stickers. Thanks Liam for sharing your story!

Thanks to our PTO, Grant School students excitedly welcomed children's author/Illustrator Mike Malbrough. Mr. Malbrough shared the process he goes through when writing stories and sketching the pictures to go with them. It was another great way we celebrated Read Across America!

Mrs. Manna’s 2nd grade class has been learning about famous people that have made a difference. Each student chose a person and created amazing “Pop Bottle Figures” made out of recycled water bottles.

On January 25, six DHS Art students participated in a Juried Exhibit at the Art Center of Northern New Jersey, which is located in New Milford, NJ. This was a great opportunity for our talented young artists to showcase their work.

Our student artists were among a pool of 48 student artists from the following school districts, New Milford, RiverDell, Hackensack, Westwood Regional, Indian Hills, Ramapo, Midland Park. Every district submitted work from 6 students in categories including, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Mixed Media and Digital Art. Amazingly, every Dumont student who participated in the "Young Expressions" Juried Exhibit was awarded an accolade for their artistic accomplishments. We are so proud of our talented students and teachers!
